PARADISE IS PERSONAL
Notes on the Odyssey of Penelope and Circe, 2024-2025
My work is a poetical attempt for the re-creation of the umbilical cord of the seemingly two different or opposite aspects of the feminine principle. Inspired by Greek mythological figures of the Odyssey, Penelope as the analogy of endurance, stability, faithfulness on one side and Circe, the dynamic, transformative and supernatural on the other side. A queen and and a goddess: I present these two different principles in open opposition – the opposition, being so inherent part of Greek cosmology.
In the contrary of Odysseus Elytis, I kept the the myth-making mechanism and I kept the figures of mythology as well. Building up the theater and organizing the theatrical situation is a base part of the image-making process. This theater is the „real sphere” where the daily coexistence between gods and humans are happening through drama and told to men.
This project started in Ithaca, Greece during the Return2Ithaca 2024 artist residency.
